Skiing will be the best the Lodge side today, where we were able to pack and finally start to do some leveling. The groomers have been out all morning leveling and working on a finished surface. Wednesday, January 19. The storm was exactly what we needed. And yes, we are open today!
The base was packed well and the ground underneath was hard and frozen. THEN, the storm left 20+ inches for fresh, new snow. We were out rolling and packing during the storm, yesterday and will be working again today. There was another inch or so last night. Monday January, 17th. We are in the middle of a Massive Winter Storm.
We have 8-10 inches of new snow with another similar amount predicted by Tuesday evening, plus more later this week. Yesterday the Wilderness Wildcats, our youth ski program, had their first day of fun on the snow. This program, lead by Ned Reade and supported by a group of volunteers, has over 40 kids enrolled this year to learn the life time benefits of cross country skiing. We have rolled and packed the Lodge side and have a boundary layer of ice underneath. Skating pushes the snow away so this is an effort to protect the trails.
