UPDATED: Open to public December 27th and 28th.

Update: Based on the reports from several of our skiers yesterday and this morning, we will be open to the public the remainder of today (December 27th) and tomorrow. This includes our rental department.

Original post from the evening of December 25th:

From hearing our phone ringing all weekend long, we know that many of you are itching to get on the snow. Despite the forecast taunting us with dumpings of snow all weekend, most of the deeper accumulation has been further NE, towards Buffalo.

Barring any major accumulation overnight, here are the current conditions and the plan for tomorrow, December 26th:

Snow in the woods is mostly covered, but variable. Most of the wet areas have completely iced over and there is enough of a layer of dense powder to enjoy some striding; even some gliding in areas. The snow isn’t deep enough to completely cover the ruts and undulations in the trail though, and some tree branches still poke through. The density of the snow is in our favor, as it balances out the shallow depth. Still, it’s too shallow to get our grooming equipment on it.

Season pass holders are welcome to come and enjoy the snow we have. Bring an older (and ideally, wider) pair of skis and be prepared for variable conditions. Bare spots and branches may exist and we ask that you stay off major hills due to hazards that may be hidden by drifts.

For our general public, we unfortunately have to ask that you don’t come out yet. Our rental shop won’t be open and the trail conditions aren’t ideal for more novice skiers. Additionally, since we don’t have the base we need to work the snow, having too many people on it will quickly compact it and turn it to ice. This decision is necessary to limit the number of people on our trails.

Looking at the forecast, Old Man Winter is still settling in for the season, but we’re hopeful that we get the early season lake effect that we love so much soon. Stay tuned for updates.
