Hard to imagine but this winter cold is good for us. Once we get the air out of the snow and have it compressed, the cold settles into the earth below. This sets up a boundary layer, a thermal layer of cold which when the air temperature warms up, helps keep our snow intact.
Over the years, we have found how important that base layer is….we have skied on long strips of snow when the ground beside us is bare.
The other factor we can add is that you can help. It’s a factor of physics. The compaction of a snowmobile over a given footprint is less per sq. inch than you skiing on a 2 inch by 65 inch board. People power! Come ski and help us pack the trails…
